TUMPAT ( 20 JAN 2025) The restoration of 264 telecommunications towers damaged by recent floods in Kelantan has been completed, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
During his visit to the flood-affected tower in Kampung Jubakar Pantai on Monday, Fahmi urged proactive measures to safeguard infrastructure ahead of the Northeast Monsoon in October. “Site hardening and preventive strategies are crucial for towers in flood-prone areas,” he emphasized.
He also directed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to collaborate with network providers and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to map out vulnerable tower locations.
Highlighting the high costs of repairs and upgrades, Fahmi stressed the need for innovative solutions to minimize future damage. His call for swift action underscores the ministry’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted connectivity, even in adverse conditions, as communities prepare for the monsoon season.
