KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 635 notices for various offences after inspecting 6,605 buses nationwide during a special operation for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli highlighted common violations, including using mobile phones while driving, exceeding four hours of driving without a co-driver, and issues related to licences.
The operation, conducted at 54 depots and 28 terminals from January 20, also included undercover officers on 169 buses to catch offences in real time.
Urine tests on 420 bus drivers were carried out in collaboration with the National Anti-Drug Agency, with six drivers failing the tests.
Aedy Fadly emphasized strict enforcement under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 and Road Transport Act 1987, urging passengers to report offences via the MyJPJ app or email. “We will not compromise on road safety,” he said.
