KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi joined the Chinese New Year celebration at Wisma MCA on Wednesday (Jan 29), marking a show of unity and cultural appreciation among Malaysia’s political leaders.
Arriving at approximately 9.25am, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the chairman of Barisan Nasional (BN), was warmly welcomed by MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, alongside MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon and other senior party leaders. The festive gathering saw the participation of key figures from various political and community sectors, reinforcing the spirit of multicultural harmony that defines Malaysia.
Among the notable attendees were BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who joined in the celebrations alongside MCA members and supporters. The event featured traditional lion dance performances, cultural displays, and the symbolic tossing of “yee sang,” a customary practice signifying prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead.
In his address, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the significance of such celebrations in strengthening national unity, emphasizing the importance of fostering mutual respect and understanding among Malaysia’s diverse communities. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Chinese community and acknowledged MCA’s contributions to national development.
