IPOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians to prioritize economic growth and unity instead of being distracted by racial and religious controversies.
Speaking at the Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (PCCCI) Chinese New Year celebration, Anwar stressed that Malaysia must remain a model of racial harmony.
“There will always be groups trying to claim small victories, but the majority must focus on the country’s future,” he said.
Anwar, the first Prime Minister to attend PCCCI’s event in 118 years, reaffirmed that traditions like Malays celebrating Chinese New Year and Chinese celebrating Hari Raya should not be politicized.
He also defended Malaysia’s balanced foreign policy, rejecting claims of favoritism toward China. “We welcome all investments that benefit the nation,” he said, highlighting China’s respect for Malaysia during his meetings with President Xi Jinping.
Anwar concluded by emphasizing that unity and economic progress are key to making Malaysia a strong regional player.
