SHAH ALAM: Izwan Hassan, the owner of a BYD Atto 3 electric SUV that abruptly stopped on a highway, has decided to return the vehicle through a full loan settlement arranged by BYD Sime Motors. Despite a minor financial loss, Izwan prioritised his family’s safety after the car halted suddenly in the fast lane of the Cheras–Kajang Expressway at over 100km/h, due to a faulty driver-side door sensor. BYD clarified that the sensor triggered the safety system, causing the vehicle to brake and shut down within seconds—without any warning. The incident sparked debate about the reliability of EV safety systems and after-sales service in Malaysia.
