Since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig in July 2023 for £52 million, Christopher Nkunku has made 29 appearances across all competitions, scoring 16 goals and providing 7 assists. In the 2024–25 season, he has contributed 13 goals: 2 in the Premier League, 1 in the FA Cup, 3 in the EFL Cup (including a hat-trick against Barrow), and 7 in the UEFA Conference League. Despite these impressive statistics, he has struggled to secure a consistent starting position under manager Enzo Maresca, making only three Premier League starts this season.

Bayern Munich is actively pursuing Nkunku, who is reportedly open to a move due to his limited playing time at Chelsea. Chelsea has valued Nkunku at around €77 million (£65 million), and in response to Bayern’s interest, the club has inquired about 19-year-old Bayern forward Mathys Tel.

However, Tel remains committed to Bayern, complicating the possibility of a swap deal. Negotiations are ongoing, with Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, determined to secure Nkunku’s transfer this month. While personal terms between Nkunku and Bayern have yet to be finalized, they are not expected to pose a significant barrier to the transfer.
