Big changes are happening at Everton! The club confirmed on Thursday that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as manager.
Dyche stepped in back in 2023, taking over from Frank Lampard. He worked hard to steer the Toffees away from relegation in two challenging seasons, even with the club facing financial difficulties. However, the combination of poor form on the pitch and a style of play that didn’t excite fans has led the club to make this tough decision.
In a twist that has Everton fans buzzing, sources have revealed that David Moyes is close to making an incredible return to Goodison Park. Talks with the club’s new owners are reportedly going well, and Moyes, who managed Everton for 11 years before leaving in 2013, seems ready for a second spell in charge.
Everton currently sits 16th in the Premier League, with just 15 goals scored in 19 games. Only Southampton, at the bottom of the table, has scored fewer. It’s no wonder the club is looking for a spark to turn things around.
The announcement came just hours before Everton’s FA Cup third-round match against Peterborough. For now, club captain Seamus Coleman and former player Leighton Baines will step in to manage the team on an interim basis.
In their official statement, Everton shared:
“Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect. [Coaches] Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard, and Billy Mercer have also left the club. The process to appoint a new manager is underway, and an update will be provided in due course. Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis.”
Fans have speculated about potential replacements, with Jose Mourinho’s name popping up early on. However, sources suggest he’s not in the running right now.
This shake-up comes as Everton embarks on a new chapter under its new U.S.-based ownership group, the Friedkin Group. Executive chairman Marc Watts has promised to lead Everton into an “exciting new era both on and off the pitch.” With the team moving to a state-of-the-art riverfront stadium next season after 132 years at Goodison Park, it truly feels like a fresh start for the club.
David Moyes, who hasn’t managed a team since leaving West Ham last season, seems excited about the possibility of returning to Everton. While Graham Potter was linked with the role, he’s now headed to West Ham, leaving Moyes as the clear frontrunner.
Change is never easy, but Everton fans are hopeful this shake-up will reignite the club’s passion and success. Here’s to a brighter future for the Toffees!
