Flood Evacuees in Sabah and Sarawak Rise to Over 15,000

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in Sabah and Sarawak has surged to 15,015 as of this morning, up from 11,886 last night, according to disaster management authorities.

In Sarawak, the number of displaced individuals rose to 9,398, with Bintulu being the hardest-hit area, sheltering 4,021 evacuees in six relief centres. Serian, Selangau, Tatau, and Kuching also recorded significant numbers.

Meanwhile, Sabah saw an increase to 5,617 evacuees, with Kota Marudu being the most affected, housing 2,944 people in relief centres. Other districts, including Pitas, Lahad Datu, Telupid, and Kota Belud, are also impacted.

Authorities have opened 39 relief centres across 10 districts in Sabah, with rising evacuation trends in several areas. Rescue operations and aid distribution continue as authorities monitor the worsening flood situation.
