KAJANG: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has urged sports associations to prioritize transparency and fairness in their leadership elections, warning that political practices could harm athletes’ development and performance.
“Politics should stay with political parties. Sports associations must focus on sports,” Hannah emphasized at the Netball Super League (NSL) 2025 Clinic organized by Astro today.
She addressed ongoing allegations against Datuk Seri Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin, accused of forging nomination documents for the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association (PHKL) presidency. Hannah assured that the Sports Commissioner would investigate and involve the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if necessary.
Hannah also highlighted the National Sports Council’s (MSN) evaluation criteria for rewarding athletes based on the scale of world championships, noting that participation levels vary widely among events.
The NSL clinic attracted 149 students nationwide, promoting youth engagement and fostering future sporting talent. “Our focus must remain on the athletes and the integrity of sports,” Hannah concluded.
