PUTRAJAYA: The National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) celebrations this year will bring together media organisations from across Asean to strengthen regional cooperation and address the pressing challenges faced by the industry, says Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
Set to coincide with Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship, the event will invite Asean media practitioners for discussions on issues such as declining ad revenues, media ethics, and combating fake news. Fahmi emphasized, “This platform aims to foster collaboration and find solutions to strengthen the industry’s credibility and resilience.”
Information gathered during Hawana will also contribute to discussions at the Asean Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) meeting in Brunei this May.
The minister expressed confidence in Bernama and RTM, appointed as the official media and broadcaster for Asean Summit 2025, to effectively represent Malaysia’s leadership.
The government remains committed to ensuring a free and capable media, vital for driving positive regional transformation.
