PUTRAJAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad has clarified that the decision to put the Waktu Bekerja Berlainan (WBB) pilot project on hold should not be seen as a “flip-flop” move. He emphasized that the decision stems from the need for a more comprehensive study before implementing the policy.

The WBB pilot project, which proposed staggered working hours for healthcare workers, was aimed at improving work-life balance and alleviating overcrowding issues in hospitals. However, Dr. Dzulkefly explained that further evaluation is essential to address concerns raised by healthcare professionals and ensure the policy does not disrupt service delivery.

“This is not a reversal of our commitment but rather a deliberate step to refine the framework and ensure that any implementation is both practical and beneficial to all stakeholders,” said Dr. Dzulkefly during a press briefing. He reiterated that the ministry prioritizes the welfare of healthcare workers while maintaining the quality of patient care.

The reassessment comes amid mixed reactions from stakeholders. While some commend the ministry’s cautious approach to ensure thorough planning, others urge swift measures to address ongoing challenges within the public healthcare system. Dr. Dzulkefly assured the public that feedback from all parties would be taken into account to create a well-rounded and sustainable policy.
