KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has initiated contempt proceedings against social media personality Papagomo over alleged defamatory posts targeting the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The legal action comes after Papagomo, whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, published a series of posts on social media that allegedly contained false accusations and misleading statements about the police force. These posts have been widely shared, sparking controversy and public debate.
According to sources, the police have lodged formal complaints regarding the content of Papagomo’s statements, which they claim undermine public trust in law enforcement. Legal experts indicate that contempt proceedings could lead to significant legal consequences if the court rules in favor of the IGP.
In a statement, Razarudin emphasized that defamatory remarks against PDRM would not be tolerated, as they could harm the credibility of the country’s law enforcement agencies. He urged social media users to verify information before spreading unsubstantiated claims.
This is not the first time Papagomo has been embroiled in legal issues. He has previously faced defamation lawsuits and legal action over controversial statements made on various platforms.
The case is expected to proceed in court, with the police stressing that they are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that false allegations against them are addressed appropriately.
