KOTA KINABALU, Jan 18 — Heavy rains in Sabah triggered landslides and floods on Thursday, causing widespread disruptions and property damage.
In Kundasang, Syameen’s Homestay was severely damaged by a landslide. The Fire and Rescue Department dispatched a team from the Ranau station after receiving a distress call at 5.32pm. Residents were urged to evacuate as a precaution, though no injuries were reported.
In Kota Marudu, six families from Kampung Tamisan and Rady Tigaman were relocated to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bengkongan after floods submerged their homes. Rising water levels also trapped 47 victims at Sekolah Kebangsaan Nibang in Kampung Nibang Pitas, with rescue efforts hampered by impassable roads.
Meanwhile, Sandakan Rainforest Park has been temporarily closed since January 16 due to a landslide near a SESB Grid Line pole, posing safety risks.
