KULIM: Entry permit applications in Malaysia will now be processed within six months, provided all required documents are submitted, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced today.
Speaking at the Home Ministry’s ‘Sua Mesra’ programme in Sungai Karangan, Saifuddin highlighted that this streamlined process prioritizes Malaysian citizens married to foreign nationals.
“Previously, applications were delayed for up to 15 years. This new approach, supported by clear SOPs and a comprehensive document checklist, will ease bureaucracy and ensure timely approvals,” he said.
Entry permits allow foreign nationals to reside in Malaysia for purposes like studying or family reunification. From 2020 to 2024, 23,674 applications were processed, with a 52% approval rate.
Separately, Saifuddin addressed the relocation of Bukit Malut residents in Langkawi, stating that the National Security Council (MKN) and Kedah government are collaborating to resolve illegal housing and coastal encroachment issues.
This revamped process reflects the government’s commitment to reducing delays and ensuring transparency for affected families.
