GEORGE TOWN: With the school holidays approaching, parents are taking proactive steps to safeguard their children’s health.

Mechanic Shahrul Nizam Shahbudin, 42, ensures his family follows strict hygiene practices during outings, including wearing masks and using hand sanitiser. “Since the Covid-19 pandemic, these measures have become a priority for us,” said the father of five.

Housewife Siti Mastura Abu Bakar, 37, emphasized avoiding crowded areas and practicing physical distancing, habits her family has maintained since the pandemic.

Businessman Musen Liew, 39, encourages his children to wear masks during festive gatherings, especially with Chinese New Year approaching.

Universiti Sains Malaysia family medicine specialist Dr. Mastura Mohd Sopian urged parents to keep sick children at home and prioritize hygiene during travels. She also recommended open-air locations for better ventilation and getting children vaccinated against influenza to prevent seasonal flu.

“Simple precautions can significantly reduce health risks,” she said.
