KUALA LUMPUER: The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) aerotrain system, a vital mode of transportation connecting terminals, is on track to resume operations by the second quarter of 2025. This marks a significant milestone for Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) as it aims to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.
The aerotrain has been undergoing a comprehensive upgrade since 2021, following years of increasing maintenance issues. The restoration project is part of MAHB’s broader initiative to modernize the airport’s infrastructure and ensure world-class services for travelers.
Restoration and Modernization
The new aerotrain system will feature cutting-edge technology, improved reliability, and enhanced passenger comfort. According to MAHB, the upgraded system will also have increased capacity, allowing smoother movement for the millions of passengers passing through KLIA annually.
MAHB Managing Director Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood said, “We are committed to ensuring that KLIA continues to maintain its position as a premier hub in the region. The aerotrain upgrade is a critical component of this effort, ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers.”
Interim Solutions
In the absence of the aerotrain, MAHB has been utilizing shuttle buses to transport passengers between terminals. While the shuttle service has managed to fill the gap, many travelers have expressed anticipation for the aerotrain’s return due to its speed and convenience.
Global Standards
The new aerotrain system aligns with international standards and is part of MAHB’s goal to elevate KLIA’s ranking among global airports. It is also expected to reduce congestion and improve the overall efficiency of the airport.
As KLIA gears up for the return of its aerotrain, travelers can look forward to a more efficient and modernized airport experience, reinforcing Malaysia’s status as a key player in global aviation.
