Kuala Lumpur – The Dewan Rakyat session today saw discussions on Malaysia’s preparations for the 2025 SEA Games and the implementation of the Non-Work-Related Accident Scheme mechanism under the Social Security Organization (SOCSO).

Malaysia’s Target for the 2025 SEA Games

The Youth and Sports Ministry outlined Malaysia’s ambitions for the upcoming 2025 SEA Games, focusing on enhancing athlete development, training programs, and international exposure. Lawmakers debated the feasibility of achieving a higher medal tally and the importance of government support in securing success on the regional stage. Questions were raised about funding allocations, athlete welfare, and infrastructure readiness ahead of the competition.

Mechanism for the Non-Work-Related Accident Scheme

Meanwhile, the Dewan Rakyat also deliberated on the Non-Work-Related Accident Scheme, which aims to provide social protection for workers affected by accidents outside their workplace. The scheme, managed by SOCSO, is expected to benefit a broad segment of the workforce, ensuring financial aid and medical assistance for affected individuals. The government addressed concerns regarding eligibility, funding sources, and the timeline for full implementation.
