KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has set an ambitious goal to reclaim its position as the world’s top rubber producer within the next decade, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed yesterday. The move is part of the government’s broader strategy to revitalize the country’s agriculture and industrial sectors.

Speaking at the National Rubber Conference, Zahid highlighted the need for strategic reforms in rubber cultivation, production, and export practices. He emphasized that Malaysia’s history as a rubber powerhouse could be leveraged with the adoption of modern technologies and sustainable practices.

“Malaysia has the resources and expertise to become a global leader in rubber production once again,” Zahid said. He added that collaboration between government agencies, industry players, and smallholders is crucial to achieving this vision.

The government is also expected to roll out incentives to attract investments in rubber research and development. These include exploring innovative uses of natural rubber in various industries, such as healthcare, automotive, and construction, which could enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness on the global stage.

With support from stakeholders and a clear roadmap, Malaysia aims to reclaim its title from Thailand and Indonesia, which currently lead global rubber production.
