SIBU, – Trade between China and Malaysia has reached an all-time high of US$212.04 billion in 2024, marking 16 consecutive years of China being Malaysia’s largest trading partner, said China’s Consul-General in Kuching, Xing Weiping.
Speaking at a Chinese New Year gathering officiated by Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Xing highlighted the surge in Chinese tourist arrivals, exceeding 3.8 million in 2024, thanks to visa-free policies.
Beyond traditional infrastructure investments, China-Sarawak cooperation is expanding into green energy, manufacturing, and digital economy. The first-ever shipment of 20,000 tons of methanol from Bintulu to China also marks a major milestone.
Xing urged the Chinese community in Sibu to continue fostering strong economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
